PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE
WIDENING FLORIDA’S TURNPIKE FROM GRIFFIN ROAD TO ATLANTIC BOULEVARD
PROJECT DEVELOPMENT AND ENVIRONMENT STUDY/DESIGN

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise has scheduled a Public Hearing for the Widening of Florida’s Turnpike from Griffin Road to Atlantic Boulevard in Broward County (see Project Location Map). The Public Hearing will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at the Holiday Inn Plantation Sawgrass, 1711 N. University Drive, Plantation, FL. In the event that the Public Hearing cannot be held on September 23, 2003 due to severe weather or other unforeseen conditions, it will be held on the alternate date of September 30, 2003 at the same time and place. This hearing is being held as part of the Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study/Design that is now underway for the project. This Public Hearing is being conducted to afford persons the opportunity to express their views on the project. The Public Hearing will consist of an open house with maps, drawings, and other pertinent information developed by the FDOT from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., followed by a formal presentation beginning at 6:30 p.m. Florida’s Turnpike representatives will be on hand to discuss the project and to receive comments.
Improvements are being considered for Florida’s Turnpike from Griffin Road to Atlantic Boulevard, a distance of approximately 13 miles. The overall project has been divided into two segments: Griffin Road (Mile Post [MP] 53) to north of Sunrise Boulevard (MP 60) and north of Sunrise Boulevard to Atlantic Boulevard (MP 66). Oral or written comments can be made at the Public Hearing or mailed to Ms. Rebecca Bolan, P.E. (see address below), at the Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise, and postmarked within 10 days from the Public Hearing. This Public Hearing will be held in accordance with Section 339.155 Florida Statutes and applicable sections of 23 CFR. Impacts to wetlands and floodplains may be given special consideration under Executive Orders 11990 and 11988. The proposed project is being developed in accordance with the Civil Rights Act of 1964 Project Location Map and the Civil Rights Act of 1968, as amended. Under Title VI and Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act, any person(s) or beneficiary who believes they have been discriminated against because of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, disability, or familial status may file a written complaint with the FDOT’s Minority Programs Office, 605 Suwannee Street, Tallahassee, Florida 32399-0450. Anyone needing special assistance under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 should contact Jeffrey LeClaire, P.E., at least seven (7) days prior to the Hearing by telephone at (954) 975-4855, extension 3826, or by writing to him at Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise, at P.O.
